The winter holidays in northern Kuusamo, Lapland
will take you through
some
of the last virgin forest areas of Europe. Northern lights, majestic
snow
covered siberian spruces, pine forest with a deep snow blanket and wildlife
give you the chance to learn more about our life style, just south of the
Arctic Circle.
Winter
arrives to northern Kuusamo in October
with beautiful snow that lasts right up until the end of April. The
climate in here is always fresh and stimulating, and temperature varies between
–5C to –30C. However, high standard winter clothes and equipment gives you the
chance to enjoy your winter holiday with experienced nature and wilderness
guides.
Arrival day Transfers from Kuusamo airport to the
accommodation; grey
log cottage. Welcome celebration at Safari
restaurant Kala-
Apaja, introduction of the guides, program and
equipment.
Day 1 Breakfast. Transfer to Oulanka
National Park. Snowshoe hike
or
crosscountry skiing at Kiutaköngäs rapids. Introduction to the Nature Centre.
Multivisio of the variety of spieces that are found in the park. Lunch at the
restaurant of the Nature Park.
In
the afternoon guide to Finnish sauna culture, history, mythology. Heating of
the chimneyless smoke sauna, bathing.
Dinner.
Day 2 Breakfast. Transfer to the horse farm,
equipment for ice
fishing. Horse sleigh ride to Kitka lake and
introduction of
traditional ice fishing, weir, jig hooks, nets etc.
Lunch by campfire in the wilderness. Horse
sleighride to
Safari restaurant Kala-Apaja. The three excellent
saunas are
available; 17th century logsauna, ice
sauna and chimneyless
smoke sauna.
Three course dinner - catch of the day.
Transfer back to the accommodation.
Day 3 Breakfast. Day safari with horses,
huskies and reindeer.
Three genuine arctic animals,
Finnhorses, Siberian Huskies
and Lapp reindeer. Winter wonderland in the quiet,
beautiful snow covered trees. Spectacular nature
adventure.
Lunch by camp fire in wilderness. In the afternoon
transfer to
Kala-Apaja, Lapp evening with traditional customs,
food and
joiku (Lapp songs).
Ceremonies for Diploms ”Green Arctic Circle in
Kuusamo”
Departure Breakfast. Chance to buy souvenirs, visit to
the local artisan.
Transfer back to the airport.
