OULANKA TRAIL - SUMMER

Canoeing & hiking & fishing trail

The Oulanka National Park is situated in Kuusamo highlands area.  The park is 270 square kms, and to the east the park is bounded by Russia, to the north by the Arctic Circle. The 80 km long canoeing and hiking trek runs through the Oulanka National Park. From the north of the trail runs on duckboards through extensive aapa mires and across high, forested hills. Surging rapids, rugged river banks, dry pine forests and winding eskers mark the landscape. The park is one of the richest areas in Finland as regards the variety of spieces; a unique mixture of eastern, southern and northern spieces.

Beautiful yellow lady’s slippers and calypsos – the parks symbol – also thrive in the calciferous soil. The big beasts, like brown bears are found here every year.   The curious Siberian jay is a bird species that the hiker is certain to become acquainted with eagles and butterflys. The lake trout is also found here as a natural population.
